Hello my name is Caitlin Schulzke. I'm a junior here at Southern Oregon University. I'm currently a primary education major. It took me a while to decide my major and get to where I am today. At first I dabbled in communication and business here at SOU. I was never truly satisfied and could never see myself in an office setting. I wanted to make a difference in young peoples lives. I saw that I could make this dream come true with being an education major.
To be completely honest I'm an only child have have always been deathly afraid of children for a majority of my life, until my senior year of high school :) My view changed while on a mission trip to and orphanage in Mexico. I've always been involved with cheerleading and had unfortunately fractured my pelvis before the trip. My job I was assigned before this accident dealt with manual labor on the mission trip, but since I was injured my job title change and now had to face my fears. I was now in charge of creating the curriculum for the vacation bible school classes and then actually implementing it while connecting with the children. This seems like a pretty simple task except there was a huge language barrier between us. It was challenging, yet rewarding. My efforts paid off and reveled a true love and passion I never knew I had. I was truly thankful for the experience.
